Referrals Mean Business
I am always surprised by the number of business owners that I talk with that don't have a formalised referral program in place. This summer, I have been working with a lot of tradespeople and most of them tell me that 90% of their business comes from one or two sources...and then they turn around and refer me to their source's competitor! When I ask them what they do in return, they say, "nothing". Depending on your industry, 10 to 80% of your business should come from referrals. My last 6 clients have been referrals and one of them was a very large international franchise. Some of my clients have doubled their sales strictly through establishing a formalised referral program and/or an affiliate program.
